Registered Plumbers and Apprenticeships

The core business of Smith Brothers is plumbing. Plumbers and apprentices make up 80% of our workforce. This career stream includes Division Managers, Project Managers, Estimators, Site Supervisors, Foremen and Leading Hands. All our plumbers have completed a four year apprenticeship with national accreditation. Industry and project specific training is planned and undertaken as required.

Australia has a current national trade shortage. Our specific focus is on ensuring there will be sufficient qualified plumbing tradespeople for the future. We have continuously employed apprentices for over 20 years and work hard to attract and retain people to the trade. We do this by offering work experience to over 50 students per year; talking at schools and TAFE about the opportunities in a plumbing career; aim to recruit 5-10 apprentices per year and have continuous post trade training for all our plumbers.

EcoSmart Plumbers

As licensed EcoSmart plumbers, our service plumbers are trained in water audits and in the design and installation of environmentally sustainable plumbing solutions for home and business situations.

Team work, multi-skilling and innovation

Plumbing is a multi skilled trade, with increasing use of new products and installation solutions. By rotating our apprentices and tradesmen through different projects and divisions, their knowledge and skills increase.

The culture of knowledge sharing and wealth of experienced tradespeople facilitates multi skilling,innovation and team work. In recent years issues such as Legionnaires Disease, Water Saving, Green Buildings & Energy Efficiency feature in building projects and our plumbers learn new skills and a working knowledge of environmental care.
